Ringing (2019)

for eight percussionists

Ringing reflects three distinct traditions of playing metal instruments. The piece is divided into three sections, each representing Russian Orthodox church bell ringing, Indonesian Gamelan, and English Change ringing. This composition takes the listener on an imaginary journey around the world, recreating soundscapes through the counterpoint of overlapping rhythmic patterns and melodic lines.

Instrumentation: Crotales, 5 Temple Blocks, Glockenspiel, Maracas, 2 Tibetan Singing Bowls, Tam-tam, Glockenspiel, Shaker, Sleigh Bells, Tuned Gongs C3-F#4, 2 Vibraphones (3- and 4-octave), Rainstick, 4 Toms, Almglocken (2 octaves), Triangle, Large Gong, Angklung, 2 Bongos & 2 Tom-Toms, Chimes, Wood Block, Bell Plate (or Small Gong).
