Program notes
The term “non-place” was introduced by French anthropologist Marc Augé in his book Non-Places: Introduction to an Anthropology of Supermodernity. It describes spaces perceived as transitional or liminal, such as airports, shopping malls, and hotels. These environments can create a psychological sense of disturbance, where one experiences a state of “in-betweenness”: anonymity, temporariness, and a lack of belonging.
In this piece, I explore this unsettling experience through music, attempting to recreate the sense of constant activity and crowdedness that characterizes non-places—elements that can overwhelm us and, at times, lead to alienation.
