Fairy Tale was the composer’s first work for chamber ensemble. The piece unfolds across two distinct spaces. The first is the real world, where we observe a mother lulling her child to sleep and are given fleeting glimpses of a small, cozy room: the ticking of a mantel clock and the intimate atmosphere of the home. The second is the world of the child’s imagination, where the images from the mother’s fairy tale come to life.

Premiere: November 25, 2010 — Concert Hall of the M. P. Mussorgsky Music School, as part of a concert featuring students and alumni of Vladimir Sokolov’s composition studio. Performed by Alexander Kostyagin (flute), Alexey Zobnin (violin), Fedor Buin (viola), and Alexey Govorov (cello).
